Why We Built Our Own Booking System
Most massage studios use the same handful of booking platforms. They work well enough for hairdressers, dentists, personal trainers, and massage studios because they were designed to work well enough for all of them. That is the problem. They are built for everyone, which means they are built specifically for no one.
We wanted something different. So we built our own.
It took over a year. Every flow was tested with real bookings, real payments, real refunds, and real problems that we found and fixed before a single client used it. The reason it feels simple when you use it is because we spent the time making it that way. Simplicity is not the starting point. It is the result of removing everything that does not need to be there.
Five steps, no account, no password
Booking a massage at Amun takes five steps. You choose your massage, pick a duration, select a time, enter your name and email, and pay. That is it. No account to create. No password to remember. No registration form asking for your date of birth, your address, and your life story.
We ask for your first name, your last name, and your email address. Your phone number is optional because we do not believe in collecting information we do not need. When every other booking page asks for everything, asking for less is a deliberate choice. Your data is yours. We only want what we actually need to confirm your booking and send you the details.
If you need to reschedule or cancel, the link is in your confirmation email. One click and you are there. No logging in, no searching for a password you set six months ago, no “forgot password” emails. We handle the security quietly in the background so you never have to think about it.
Your code is your key
If you have a membership, a package, or a gift card, your experience is even simpler. Enter your code and the booking page recognises you. Your name and email are filled in automatically. Your remaining sessions or balance are shown clearly. You book exactly as normal.
No client portal. No dashboard. No “my account” page with a dozen tabs you will never use. Just your code, your booking, and your confirmation. We built it this way because we looked at every other system and saw the same thing: features that exist for the software company’s benefit, not the client’s.
The slot hold
When you pick a time at Amun, that slot is yours for ten minutes. A countdown shows on screen. Nobody else can take it while you are deciding. This means you will never get to the payment page only to find your time has gone because someone else booked it thirty seconds before you. It sounds like a small thing. It is not. It is the difference between a booking that feels safe and one that feels like a race.
Gift cards that actually work
Buying a gift card should be as enjoyable as receiving one. You choose the amount, pick a design, and decide how it arrives: by email to you, by email to the recipient on a date you choose, or as a physical card posted to your door. The physical cards are printed in our studio on our own card printer, on premium stock, designed to feel like a gift rather than a voucher. The recipient books using their code. They do not need to know anything about our booking, create an account, or call us to redeem it.
Instant everything
After you pay, the confirmation page loads immediately. No spinning wheel. No “processing your booking” screen. The page is ready before it reaches your browser. Your confirmation email arrives within seconds and includes a calendar link so you can add the appointment to your phone straight away. Email and SMS reminders follow before your appointment. No spam, no marketing dressed up as a reminder, just the information you need at the right time.
Designed for your phone
Most of our clients book from their phone. The booking flow, the calendar, the payment page, the confirmation, all of it was designed for a phone screen first and a desktop second. Apple Pay and Google Pay mean you can complete the whole thing with a single touch. No typing card numbers on a small screen. No pinching and zooming a page that was designed for a laptop.
What we left out
There is no client portal. No booking history page. No loyalty points. No push notifications. No app to download. We removed everything that does not directly serve the experience of booking a massage and enjoying it.
Off-the-shelf platforms are full of features because features are what they sell. More features mean more plans, more pricing tiers, more reasons to upgrade. We do not sell software. We sell massage. So our booking was built around one question: what does a client actually need between deciding to book and walking through our door? Everything that answered that question stayed. Everything that did not was cut.
The same care, all the way through
We chose the oak flooring because it felt right underfoot. We chose the walnut walls because they create warmth without trying too hard. We chose the scent because it makes the studio feel like a place, not a room. And we built our own booking because the off-the-shelf options did not meet the standard we set for everything else.
The massage is the reason you come to Amun. But the experience starts the moment you open our website. We think you should feel the difference before you even arrive.
